Ephesians 1 – Apostle Paul’s Prayer For The Saints
This is the concluding part of my summary on Ephesians Chapter 1. To read the first two parts of this summary, please click here.
Apostle Paul mentions in verse 15 and 16 that he never ceased to pray for the saints upon hearing about their faith in Jesus and their love for all the saints. Verses 17 to 20 contain Apostle Paul’s prayer for the saints, a very powerful prayer if I can add. Apostle Paul prayed that:
1. The Lord will give the saints the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God. This essentially means a deep understanding of spiritual truths and knowing that the God we believe in is not a small God. The moment the understanding of God grows in us, we become bolder.
2. The eyes of their understanding be enlightened. When our heart has imbibed the truth of the word of God, enlightenment comes. Apostle Paul therefore prayed that this enlightenment will bring them to know,
- What is the hope of His (God’s) calling. Apostle Paul’s prayer is that this enlightenment brings about the understanding of the hope God has given those He has called, that is, His holy people. When we become born again, we are instant partakers of this hope; however, it is so easy NOT to actually understand this hope that God has freely given us. Understanding this hope gives us confidence in God, knowing for a fact that if we die, we are guaranteed a place in eternity.
- What are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. Enlightenment also helps us understand and realise that everything we need and all we will ever have can be found in Christ. The moment we understand this, all fretting will cease. Why? Because we have confidence in God!
- What is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe…This same power is the power that raised Christ from the dead on the 3rd day, and this means that we have the power and the capability to do anything according to the will of God!
To conclude the chapter, we need to remember that the church, which is us, is the body of Christ. We are essentially His hands and feet, and we must ensure that we put our hands on the plough for the work of God, we must be willing and ever ready to serve in His house.
Word of the day…
Hebrews 7:25 – Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him,since He always lives to make intecession for them.

Nice one… truely blesses me.
